  141.    The IBM ITSC "red" book titled 'OS/2 Version 2.0 Remote Installation
  142.    and Maintenance', GG24-3780-00, includes a chapter describing how to
  143.    use IBM TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 and NFS for remote installation of
  144.    OS/2 Version 2.0 systems.  When using the TCP/IP procedures described
  145.    in this manual for remote OS/2 installation, please note the following:
  146.  
  147.    1. When using NFS on OS/2 Version 2.0 systems, the NFS200.IFS
  148.       statement must be used.  Update the CONFIG.SYS sample,
  149.       included on Page 43 in the Remote Installation manual,
  150.       from "IFS=\NFS.IFS" to "IFS=\NFS200.IFS".
  151.    2. The basic NFSRFI.CMD file, shown on Page 44 in the Remote
  152.       Installation manual, may not have all of the necessary
  153.       parameters for the ifconfig and mount commands.  For
  154.       example, your IP network may use subnet masking, which
  155.       would require the netmask parameter in the ifconfig
  156.       command.  Also, the mount command options may be different
  157.       when using NFS servers on other platforms.
  158.    3. The DISKPREP.CMD program, located on the diskette included
  159.       with the Remote Installation manual, is incorrect.  The
  160.       DISKPREP.CMD program documented on Page 164 of the Remote
  161.       Installation manual shows the correct syntax, but the actual
  162.       DISKPREP.CMD program on the diskette is NOT correct.  Change
  163.       the ":colon" to ":" around lines 88 to 92 as per the following
  164.       examples:
  165.  
  166.             spath'\disk_1\fdisk /delete:all /disk:1 'rdir
  167.  
  168.             spath'\disk_1\fdisk /file:'spath'\fdsk.dat 'rdir

  173.    Subject: CSD for Base Kit Installation Instructions

  175.    When installing the Base Kit CSD update, please review the following
  176.    instructions to ensure the updated modules have been successfully
  177.    installed:
  178.  
  179.    1. Review the instructions in the file named BASECSD.DOC.
  180.    2. Make sure you stop all TCP/IP applications, including INETD.
  181.    3. The CNTRL.EXE file cannot easily be replaced.  This file is started
  182.       through a RUN command in CONFIG.SYS, and you will be required to
  183.       REM (ie. comment out) out the CNTRL.EXE statement in CONFIG.SYS
  184.       prior to starting BASECSD.CMD.  After installing the CSD, remove
  185.       the REM from CONFIG.SYS and reboot your system. The procedure
  186.       procedure will also allow the TCPIPDLL.DLL to be installed, it
  187.       cannot be installed when it is in use.
  188.    4. The BASECSD.CMD install utility copies the INET.SYS and IFNDIS.SYS
  189.       files into the IBMCOM directory of the boot drive.  If you have more
  190.       than one IBMCOM directory, you MUST manually copy these two files
  191.       into each of the IBMCOM directories.  Also, the BASECSD.CMD install
  192.       utility searches for the first IBMCOM directory, starting with the
  193.       C, D then E drive.  For example, if you booted from the E drive,

  215.    An IBM Systems Engineer can issue the following commands from their
  216.    VM system to obtain the updated NetBIOS V1.0.1 for TCP/IP for OS/2
  217.    product:

  221.    Customers can obtain the CSD update for NetBIOS for TCP/IP through
  222.    the IBM Support Center.  See ENTRY41 below for instructions.

  227.    Subject: NetBIOS for TCP/IP Requires Update for TCP/IP V1.2.x for OS/2
  228.  
  229.    The NetBIOS for TCP/IP for OS/2 product, also known as TCP/NetBIOS,
  230.    requires a Corrective Service Diskette (CSD) update to run with either
  231.    IBM TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2 or TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2.  To obtain the
  232.    CSD update for TCP/NetBIOS, contact the IBM Support Center, TCP/IP
  233.    Level 2 Support, and create a problem report.  The IBM Support Center
  234.    will then mail an updated TCP/NetBIOS diskette to the customer.  The
  235.    CSD update can also be obtained electronically - see ENTRY42 above.
  236.    NetBIOS V1.0.1 for TCP/IP for OS/2 provides support for TCP/IP V1.2.1
  237.    for OS/2 and TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2.

  242.    Subject: Some Common Problems Fixed by the TCP/IP V1.2.1 CSDs
  243.  
  244.    There are several common problems in the TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2 level
  245.    code, that are fixed by the current Corrective Service Diskettes.
  246.    Here is a list of the more common problems:
  247.  
  248.    1. On OS/2 Version 2.0 systems, the X Windows server may display
  249.       some erroneous screen data.  To resolve this problem apply the
  250.       X Windows Server Kit UB02205 CSD (or higher), which is
  251.       described in ENTRY31 below.
  252.    2. Using the REXEC client to remotely start AIXTERM sessions or
  253.       other X Windows client applications takes several minutes.
  254.       To resolve this problem apply the X Windows Server Kit UB02205 CSD
  255.       (or higher), described in ENTRY31 below.
  256.    3. When running the TELNET.EXE client, the OS/2 system utilization
  257.       becomes excessive, as indicated by the OS/2 V2.0 PULSE utility.
  258.       To resolve this problem apply the Base Kit UB02274 CSD (or higher),
  259.       which is described in ENTRY37 below.

  272.    4. When running TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2 and NetWare Services for OS/2
  273.       concurrently on the same system, and using the ODINSUP utility for
  274.       ODI driver support for Ethernet LAN adapters, the system will hang.
  275.       This problem only occurs when using Ethernet LAN adapters and is
  276.       resolved in the the Base Kit UB02252 CSD (or higher), which is
  277.       described in ENTRY35 below.
  278.    5. When running ROUTED for IP routing, and using one or more Ethernet
  279.       LAN adapters, a "route is timing out for interface x" message will
  280.       occur and IP routing will stop.  To resolve this problem apply the
  281.       Base Kit UB02252 CSD (or higher), which is described in ENTRY35
  282.       below.
  283.    6. When running ROUTED for IP routing, and using one or more Ethernet

  294.    Support for specifying external ASCII/EBCIDC translation table has been
  295.    added to TN3270 and PMANT in the UB02274 Base Kit CSD for TCP/IP V1.2.1

  309.    3278XLT.TBL in ETC directory.  Thus if you want to use a particular
  310.    translate table most of the time, you should copy your translate table
  311.    file to 3270XLT.TBL in your ETC directory.  If the file 3278XLT.TBL does
  312.    not exist, the application will use the default US translate table
  313.    internal to the application.

  315.    3278XLT.SMP is shipped as an example and contains the US ASCII/EBCDIC
  316.    translations.  The format of the translation table is the same as that
  317.    of IBM TCP/IP for VM.  Thus TN3270 and PMANT can use a translation table
  318.    downloaded form IBM TCP/IP for VM.

  1217.    PMX Version 1.2.04 includes support for modifiable color tables, or
  1218.    pseudo color support.  There are three terms that you may see in
  1219.    discussions of color support: color visuals, color maps, and color
  1220.    tables. In X Window System terminology, "color visuals" specify the
  1221.    types and possible depths of color maps that are supported by a specific
  1222.    server and display adapter combination.  For example, a particular
  1223.    display adaptor may have a 5 bit deep visual with only 32 gray scale
  1224.    colors and both a 4 bit deep color visual with 16 colors, and an 8 bit
  1225.    deep color visuals with 256 colors.  In X terms a "color map" is a
  1226.    specific table containing specific colors that can be used in drawing
  1227.    in a window.  These are called "color tables" in Presentation Manager.

  1229.    There are two color visuals supported by PMX, StaticColor and
  1230.    PseudoColor.  In each case the visuals are only screen deep.  That is,
  1231.    if a display supports 256 colors, the tables PMX supports are always 256
  1232.    colors in size.

  1234.    The simpler StaticColor table cannot have its colors changed. In X terms
  1235.    there is only one such table available, and it contains the colors that
  1236.    are in the default physical color table of the display.  If the screen

  1238.    8514, XGA, or Image Adaptor it has 256 color and is 8 bits deep.
